Cole and Haney did double-takes, the former with his mouth full of cookie, the latter in the process of reaching for a new one. Parker just rolled his eyes.

"Always have to make an entrance, don't you, Calyx?"

"You know it, sweetheart." Calyx swaggered into the Dugout and did a little swirl for the men. Cole choked on his cookie. Haney turned bright red and hastily averted his eyes.

"Are you cold?" Parker asked archly.

"Haha, sweetheart. You wish you were this long when soft."

"Should I break out the measuring tape?" Black snapped, glaring at the two of them.

Calyx shrugged. "It's no contest," he muttered.

"Why the hell are you wearing a skirt?" Cole pointed at the offending garment. "It's not Halloween and besides that it doesn't even fit. The bottom of your ass is showing."

Ignoring the dumb questions, both of which could have been answered with a simple, "Duh", Calyx asked, "Where's Kard?"

"Funny you should ask," Parker drawled. He was lying stretched across one sofa with his head in Cole's lap. "Your parental figure nearly hooked me and Cole up to lie detectors earlier because he was convinced we knew where you two had gone. That man, I'm sorry to say, is like a rabid terrier in a trouser shop. To say he's intense is like saying Black dislikes disco balls."

"He's got a real boner over you," Cole added. He made a face. "I don't mean it that way. Blech."

Everything they said made Calyx's testicles want to crawl up into his body. He gave Black a pathetic look, hoping Black would come up with a brilliant backup plan B. Black just shook his head at him.

"Where is he?" Black asked Parker.

"Out in the courtyard. Coincidentally he wanted us to tell him immediately when you'd gotten home." Parker waved at them distractedly. "Go tell him yourself."

Calyx wasn't surprised by Parker's peevishness but he could see that Black noted it and didn't like it. Calyx supposed he'd have to make amends at some point. But not while he was wearing a skirt.

"Come on, Darkness. Let's go report to Dad and tell him we made it home safe and sound."

Black followed him out into the courtyard where Kard was sitting on the edge of the fountain, sketching in a notebook. Calyx hid his surprise and told himself Kard was probably drawing pictures of kittens being decapitated.

"You're home," Kard wheezed without looking up. "It's about time."

"Didn't know I was supposed to check in with you, Dad." Calyx wanted to scrub his tongue.

"I just like knowing you're safe." Smiling, Kard raised his head. Calyx internally snickered at the horrified look that crossed the older man's face.

"Something wrong?" Calyx asked sweetly.

Kard's face morphed into a piece of wrinkled leather. "You look ridiculous. Take that shit off!"

"Maybe. If you sit nicely and listen to what Darkness and I have to say."

Interest temporarily replaced the disgust on Kard's face. He looked from Black to Calyx. "Are we striking a deal?"

"Can't we just talk?"

Kard grinned. "Don't take me for an old fool, Calyx."

Calyx shot Black an aggravated look before he sighed.
